About SawScout
A cut list optimizer that doesn't stop at optimization.
Most cut list tools solve one problem well: packing parts onto sheets with minimal waste. That's important — but it's only one step in a workflow that also includes managing inventory, tracking offcuts, calculating material costs, and carrying context between projects.
For everything else, you're back to spreadsheets, memory, and that stack of plywood scraps you can never find the right piece in.
SawScout closes that gap — one tool from rough dimensions to cut-ready diagrams, with your inventory, offcuts, costs, and project history all in the same place.
What it actually does
The optimizer handles 2D bin-packing with grain direction and kerf compensation. Parts are grouped by thickness automatically — you won't accidentally try to cut a 1/4" part from a 3/4" sheet.
After optimization, SawScout identifies reusable offcuts on every sheet and lets you save them to inventory in one click. Next project, those offcuts show up as suggestions before you buy new stock.
Inventory persists across projects. Track species, dimensions, location, and cost per sheet. When the optimizer pulls from your inventory instead of new material, SawScout shows you exactly how much you saved.
The output is color-coded cut diagrams with dimensions and grain arrows — printable, so you can take them to the table saw. Material costs, waste percentages, and a shopping list for anything you still need to buy.
Coming from Excel? There's CSV import and export. Drag a file in, get your cut list optimized, export a shopping list.
Built for the workshop
SawScout's interface is information-dense on purpose. Large inputs, visible data, spreadsheet-style editing — designed for calloused hands on a dusty tablet, not pixel-perfect screenshots on a portfolio site.
If you've used CutList Plus Gold, MaxCut, or just Excel, the layout will feel familiar. We didn't try to reinvent how you enter dimensions. We tried to make everything that happens after you enter them — optimization, diagrams, inventory, costing — happen in one place instead of five.
Pricing
Optimization is free forever — no account required, no limits on runs. Open the optimizer, enter your parts, get cut diagrams.
The Pro plan adds inventory persistence, unlimited saved projects, CSV import/export, and cost tracking. See pricing details.
